Rush Hour Run: a New Yorker sprinting down a subway platform past green columns and a bench, with the race place and distance at the top.
Downtown on the 1, Times Sq to South Ferry.

Three lanes, one very crowded platform, and everyone racing downtown from Times Square toward South Ferry. Everyone runs at the same pace, so it all comes down to not stumbling.

How a Run Goes

  • Jump over turnstiles, wet floor signs, mop buckets, benches and a certain local legend with a slice.
  • Slide under low station signs and the mattress delivery.
  • Dodge columns, trash cans and someone walking slowly while looking at their phone.
  • Swipe MetroCards along the way. The bodega cat pulls them to you for a few seconds.
  • Express diamonds give you 3 seconds of smashing through anything, and running right behind someone in the same lane gives you a slipstream.
  • One bump is a stumble. A second bump within 6 seconds and you’re out.

The last runner standing wins. Anyone who makes it all the way to South Ferry wins by time. Station signs go by every 100 meters, so you always know how far you got.

Out? Heckle Instead

Once you’re out, you watch the rest (← → picks who), and you get two Showtime dancers to send into a lane ahead of them (1 2 3). A dancer is always dodgeable: switch lanes, or slide under the swinging legs.

Modes

  • Free-for-All: every runner for themselves.
  • Uptown vs Downtown: two teams, points by place.
