Moving Around
How to walk, use doors and exits, click the things that glow, sit down, and pick up coins on the sidewalk.
Getting around Club NYC is all done with the mouse. No arrow keys, no running, no jaywalking tickets.
Walking
Click anywhere on the ground and your New Yorker walks there, finding a path around benches, carts and fountains on their own. Click somewhere else to change your mind mid-walk.
Your New Yorker is the one with the yellow name tag and a pale ring around their shadow, so you can always find yourself in a crowd.
Things That Glow
Point at things in a place. Anything you can use glows with a white outline and shows a little label: carts, shop counters, benches, fountains, pigeons, a suspicious rat. Click it and your New Yorker walks over and uses it.

- Doors and shopfronts glow a warmer gold. Click one to go inside.
- Some things act right away, like hailing a taxi or reading the subway map poster.
- Picture cards. Landmarks like the Opal Clock or Bow Bridge open a card with a picture, a bit of real New York history, one joke, and usually something to do: take a photo, make a wish, sit down, or pop the question to a bridge.
- Coming Soon. A few spots are still being built, like Harlem (Coming Soon). Clicking one tells you what’s on the way, which is the most New York thing in the game.
Exits and Doors
The edges of most outdoor places have exits to the next place over, labeled with where they go (like “To Fifth Avenue”). Walk into one, or click it, to cross over. When you arrive, you’re standing by the way you came in.
Midtown and Downtown each have their own chain of streets you can walk between. To cross town, use the map, subway or a taxi.
Sitting Down
- Click a bench, chair or step to sit on it. If it’s taken, you’ll hear about it.
- Press S to sit on the nearest free seat. If there isn’t one close by, you plop down right where you are.
- Move or click the ground to stand back up.
Coins on the Sidewalk
Keep an eye on the ground. When you walk into a place, a coin or two sometimes shows up. Walk over a coin to pick it up (+1 each). There’s a limit on how many you can find in an hour and in a day, so don’t quit your day job. Actually, do get a day job.
Skating
Walk onto the ice at Rockefeller Center and you start skating, faster than walking. Ice Skates from the rental booth make it look the part.
Who’s Who
- You have a yellow name tag.
- Real players have white name tags with a thin outline. Click one to see their player card, wave, add them as a friend or visit their place.
- City locals are computer-run New Yorkers who live in the city, with their own homes, favorite spots and opinions. Their player card says “City local”. They wave back, join flash mobs and sometimes want to be friends. As more real players arrive, the locals give up their spots.
- Your friends greet you by name when you arrive.
