Every New Yorker gets a home: a charming (tiny) 5th-floor walk-up in the East Village, with exposed brick, a radiator with opinions and a view of three water towers. It’s free, it’s yours, and nobody can raise the rent.

Your 5th-floor walk-up, with the apartment buttons along the top: Decorate, Catalog, Guestbook, Open House, likes, Party and Listings.
Home sweet (tiny) home.

Getting Home

  • Press H, or click My Apartment on the toolbar.
  • On the map, click My Place.
  • To leave, click the Leave door. The map opens so you can pick where to go.

Your first time home, you’ll find three housewarming gifts in storage: a Bean Bag, a Monstera and a Floor Lamp. Hit Decorate to place them.

Around the Walk-Up

Your apartment has its own little stories. Click around:

  • The window: water towers, fire escapes and a slice of the Empire State. Open it and a pigeon moves in.
  • The radiator: it clanks. Bang on the pipe and your neighbor bangs back.
  • The stove: for storing sweaters, as is New York tradition. Or Cook Something (toast, in a pan).

Your Fridge

Click the Fridge · Magnets to see your magnets. Every magnet you buy at the Brooklyn Bridge souvenir stand ends up on your fridge door, nine in all. Missing ones show what’s left to find. (The fridge in the loft works too.)

Things to Know

  • Your home is private unless you open it up. Friends can visit any time; everyone else only during an Open House or a public party.
  • Each home keeps its own furniture. If you move, the old place stays decorated, and your storage comes with you.
  • No city locals wander in uninvited, and there are no coins on your floor. (It’s an apartment, not a subway platform.)
