Showtime!: a New Yorker dancing on a subway car while arrows scroll down four lanes and riders watch.
Showtime! Hold onto the pole.

A rhythm game on the subway. Arrows scroll down four lanes in time with the music. Hit each one on the beat, keep your combo going and the riders will tip.

Where to Play

Go to the Times Sq–42 St Station, click Board the Train, then Showtime!

How to Play

  1. Pick a difficulty. Easy (the Local: all stops) or Hard (the Express: hold on!).
  2. Hit the arrows. When an arrow reaches the target at the bottom of its lane, press the matching key.
  3. Keep the combo. Every 10 in a row, you pull off a trick: a spin, a backflip or a pole trick.
  4. Collect your tips when the train pulls into the station.

You can also tap the lanes. The game pauses itself if you switch tabs. From the pause card you can Resume or End Show.

Scoring and Pay

  • Perfect is 100 points and Good is 50. Pressing too early counts as a miss, so don’t mash.
  • Combo multiplier: ×2 from a 10 combo, ×3 from 25 and ×4 from 50.
  • Riders: a miss makes a rider look away until you string a few hits together again. One rider usually starts out unimpressed (“Not again...”) and takes a longer streak to win over.
  • Tips land in your hat as you go. Perfect hits, a big combo and more riders watching all mean bigger tips.
  • Rank: S, A, B, C or D at the end, based on your accuracy. Your rank adds a tip bonus, and every performer gets at least 3 coins (“Here, kid.”).

Your score is your points.

How a Show Goes

  • One song, about a minute and a half. The show ends when the train arrives.
  • Hard has nearly twice as many arrows as Easy, and tighter timing.
  • The arrows are the same every time you play a difficulty, so practice really pays off.

Tips

  • Learn the chart. It never changes, so every run gets easier.
  • Hard pays more, if you can keep up.
  • Don’t mash. An early press is a miss.
  • Keep the riders watching. More eyes on you means bigger tips.
