Club NYC has its own words, and New York has a lot of its own too. Here’s a quick guide to both.

Game Words

City Local

A computer-run New Yorker who lives in the city. Locals have names, homes, favorite spots and opinions. They wave back, join flash mobs, visit open houses and can be your friends. As more real players arrive, they give up their spots.

Coins

Club NYC’s money, shown at the top right. Earned in the game, never bought. Coins & Shopping

Dance Jam

A 3 minute dance party in Times Square every 8 minutes. Dance Jam

Flash Mob

What happens when you start dancing and the New Yorkers around you join in. Flash Mobs

Job

A mini-game that pays coins, like Slice Factory or Halal Rush. One play is a shift. Jobs

Lobby Code

The 4 letter code for a multiplayer game lobby, like “K7QX”. It leaves out letters and numbers that are easy to mix up (no 0, O, 1, I or L), so it survives being read out loud. Multiplayer Games

Level

Your rank in the city, set by your XP. Each level has a title, from Tourist to Club NYC Legend. Levels & XP

MetroCard

Your Club NYC ID card, made when you join, and the subway button on your toolbar. Your daily refill tops it up with coins.

New in Town

Your first-day list: five steps worth 110 coins. Your First Day

Neighborhood Wars

The weekly competition between four neighborhood teams. Neighborhood Wars

Open House

When your apartment door is open to anyone, not just friends. Open House

Player Card

The card that opens when you click a New Yorker: their name, level, team and buttons like Add Friend, Visit Their Place and Report. Your own card has your wardrobe. Press P.

Rosa

Your building’s super. She gives you the tour and writes you postcards. She also knows about the elevator. Don’t ask about the elevator.

Stamp

An achievement for doing something very New York, collected in your Stamp Book. Stamps

StreetCheesy

The listings app for buying a new home. Cheesy listings, real views. Moving Homes

Today in the City

Three small challenges a day, the same for everyone. Today in the City

XP

Experience points. Everything you do earns them, they only go up, and they set your level. Levels & XP

New York Words

Bodega

A corner store that sells everything: sandwiches, coffee, lottery tickets, phone chargers. Usually has a cat. The cat is in charge.

Bodega Cat

The cat in charge of the bodega. In Club NYC, the bodega cat writes the advice column in the Club NYC Times.

Bullet

The colored circle with a letter or number on subway signs. Each color is a trunk line.

Chopped Cheese

A bodega sandwich of chopped beef, onions and melted cheese on a hero roll. A local legend, like Pizza Rat but delicious.

Fold

How you eat a New York slice: fold it in half lengthwise. Using a fork and knife causes a scene.

Halal Cart

A street cart serving chicken or lamb over rice with white sauce and hot sauce. The line is the sign of a good one.

Pizza Rat

A real-life subway celebrity who once dragged an entire slice down the stairs. Legends say he’s still out there.

Schmear

A generous spread of cream cheese on a bagel. Ordering “a schmear” is very New York.

Showtime

What subway dancers shout before performing on a moving train. Stand back and hold onto the pole.

Stoop

The front steps of a building. Stoop sitting is a New York pastime, and Level 6 in Club NYC.

Straphanger

A subway rider, from the days when standing passengers held on to leather straps. Also a stamp.

Walk-Up

An apartment building without an elevator. Your first Club NYC home is on the 5th floor of one. Free gym.
